Presidents hold much of the power over the country that they preside over. With that presidency comes much responsibility to the nation. As said by Spiderman's Dad, "With great power comes great responsibility." This is true and applies even to the president of the Untited States. John Quincy Adams however took very irresponsible actions during his presidency and led the Nation to be in a poorer state due to that very reason. So through his presidency he took many publicy disproved actions and with those actions he has earned himself the grade of a C- for his term.

J.Q. Adams had many goals for his presidency, just as any president would. He wanted the same things that make a good nation. He just wanted the nation to be better with the help of a network of highways and canals that would run through the heart of America and better allow transportation from one area to the next. Also J.Q. Adams wanted to help to preserve the public domain with use of public funds and land. Adams also beleived that a national university was needed in the nation even though many beleived that making and funding of such an object was going beyond the powers bestowed upon him. In all of his goals, however, he was met with large blockades that made him unable to fully complete the goals that he deemed to be good for the country.

J.Q. Adams had a moderate realtionship with his fellow congressmen and his cabinet. In his presidency the "Era of Good Feelings" led there to be only one real strong party, and that would have been the Democratic Republicans. And so due to political parties, Adams met with very few issues that stopped him from reaching his goals and laws in presidency. However, J.Q. Adams also was proposing very radical ideas to his congress and therefore congress had a very hard time settling down the ideas that he had with a solid face. The ideas that he had were very unpopular even with only a single party and therefore many of his ideas were shot down by his congress. Adams then also had a very odd relationship due to the fact of his "corrupt bargain" where many beleive that he lured in Henry Clay to select him to be president with the reward that Clay would become the Secretary of State for the Nation. This made him also very unpopular with a large number of people that cause a very tumultuous relationship with congress and his cabinet.

Through J.Q. Adams' presidency, he had many plans and plots to help make the nation trun into a better place. One of these actions that were able to be carried out was the extension of the Cumberland Road which was extended into Ohio state. This road, although funded by very high tariffs, was a key point into the success of western travelling persons and it also helped trade between the coast and the west. Thus this connection was one of the few successful actions on the account of J.Q. Adams. On the negative aspect of ideas, the protective Tariffs sent much of congreess into confusion and hatred of J.Q. Adams. The most negatively impacting law was the Tariff of 1828, or more commonly referred to as the Tariff of Abominations. This tariff received its name due to the fact that it was a terrible idea and caused unending resentment from the southern states because of its use in taxing the agricultural society.

In influencing future generations of presidency, J.Q. Adams did a good job. In shortt, presidents that acted not like J.Q. Adams were much better off and most likely a lot better of a president because of it. In the history of American Presidents, to this point there was not really a very bad president, however, J.Q. Adams definately stole the record with his inability to do good for the country. In his actions, however, J.Q. Adams was considered one of the best Diplomats that there ever was. He knew his way around the ideas on foreign policy and he knew how to do everything in that area well. So even though he may not have really needed to be very diplomatic in his overall presidency, his policies on foreign affairs tended to apply to many future generations.

The United States was sadly in a worse state due to the presidency of John Quincy Adams. He led America to a road that ultimately made America weaker than it was at the start. This sad fact was only due to the fact that the Federal Government was in pieces of trying to understand many deep decisions and trying to come back together as one main party that had unanimous goals in mind to help the Nation as a whole. Therefore, because of J.Q. Adams' presidency that contained things such as the Cumberland Road and the terrible Tariff of Abominations, he deserves a "C-".
